K-1 Visa Application

My K-1 visa application forms have just been posted to the USCIS by my American fiance. I live in New Zealand and will need to obtain police checks from the UK. Would it be advisable to do so now or wait until I hear from the Consulate in New Zealand when they have received the visa application.

You can do it either way.

The UK police certificate is good for 12 months. You should apply before you hear from the consulate just to allow time for it to process and be mailed to NZ. UK police certificates have been centralized for about 2 years now so you don't apply to the police station of the town where you lived. Google ACPO police certificate UK if you're not already familiar how to obtain it. They are pretty fast processing (7-10 days for us), so no need to pay for the expedited service. Read the instructions about the photo and signature to put on the back.
