  • What happens to Visa Process when US Embassy closes?

    Hello All!

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read and any/all responses are greatly appreciated.

I wanted to know what happens to the Visa process if the US Embassy in the Beneficiary's country closes?

As there is currently protests/turmoil in various parts of the world such as Hong Kong, Lebanon, Chile, etc... it is not uncommon for the Embassy to temporarily close for safety measures. That said, what happens to the case/process if the Embassy does in fact close? Is it placed on hold or can the case be transferred to a neighboring country's US Embassy?

    Again, thanks in advance!

That's exactly right. Either the US Dept of State will shift the workload to a neighboring consulate perhaps in a different country. Or they will postpone the interviews until it's safe again. You can email your particular consulate to ask about their procedures.
    --Good luck--
Good luck. I learned the hard way, I hope you don't have to. Immigration is interesting. Not considered as legal advice.
