  • should I plan a later wedding?

I filed all the documents for the K-1 visa. My fiance is an Australian citizen. My file date was Feb 19th and I have yet to hear back from the VA center.

If there is something off with her paperwork like a missed checked box or something like that, when would i be contacted and how would i respond?

So far, we are planning a wedding for Oct 16th. That should be enough time to get everything approved right?

Its been 6 weeks so far :/ Praying to hear from them soon!

Im also leaving to go see her in three weeks. What if they try to contact me while im over there? Is there anything requiring me to sign documents and send them back, or will they just 'notify' me that i have been approved and send the packet to her embassy? How will she be contacted once they do send it?

    Thanks!

The timing predicted by the USCIS website was accurate for my wifes K-1 VISA (back then she was still fiancee). The website said 8.5 months and 8.5 months later she was able to schedule her VISA interview at the embassy.
My Fiancee arrived here on a K-1 VISA.

so if it says 5 months... it means 5 months?

Thats cool! and that would be amazing if we could get her interview in 5 months!

I did not mean to say that it was exact. Be catious and dont plan too many expensive things based on their timetables, things can go wrong at any point in the process to delay you.

The USCIS also does not take into account how busy your fiancee's embasy is.

We planned an engagement party in my wife's country based on the USCIS websites timetable and we were able to have the party and my Wife (then fiancee) was able to fly home on the same airplane.
My Fiancee arrived here on a K-1 VISA.

It is not as predictable as you may think.
We filed petition in December. It said 5 months processing. We got the petition approved in late January!!!
Interview time depends on individual country. Go to the Australianforums that discuss k-1 process in her country, and see what times are usually between petition approval and interview. For us it was about 2 months. But Australia may have petition overload or the opposite situation.
But then there was an unexpected delay, as instead of getting her visa within a few days, the embassy had visa printing problems and she didn't get her visa till 3 weeks after the interview.
So you can't really estimate these things too well.
We were expecting August or September for her arrival, based on the USCIS website's estimate.
Her plane tickets are for 27th of May. )))
I think if you shoot for a wedding in 8 months and the USCIS says petition time is 5, you are fine schedule-wise.
