Urgent Sound Advice needed!!!!

Hi. I am a Filipino Citizen who is engaged to an American. I was married to a Filipina and have filed for divorce in the US very recently. That same marriage is going through annulment proceedings in the Philippines (for a year now). My question is, can my fiancee file for a K1 visa for me using my divorce papers as proof of my eligibility to marry? We could have gotten married while I was in the US but we wanted to make sure that we did things right. I was told by a couple of people who had a similar situation that it is possible. Both my fiancee and I want to make sure that we approach this situation the right way, the first time.
