  • Don't know what I am doing too - Consulate 101

I'm helping my fiance with all of these English forms and process. Do I have this right? I don't know what I'd do without this site.

Step 1) Immihelp's "K Visa at the Consulate," Step 1, says to complete DS 230 Part I Biographic data form and return with copy of passport's biographical data. But DS 230 is an Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration. From what I understood from the U.S. Embassy in Syria, they wanted DS 156 and 157. But, I could be totally mistaken. Is DS 230 - immigrant visa application - right?

Step 2) This step is all about document gathering but not sending them in. Right? (Already have most things.) The only thing that goes back to the US Embassy is Applicant's Statement, signed and dated, and copy of passport and checklist. Then an interview will be set.

Step 3) Take everything in for the interview. I intend to also go. Will I be allowed in the interview?

This is probably all so basic but I'm a wreck trying to get all of this together and just need reassurance I'm not leaving anything out. The DS 230 threw me for a loop.

No you cannot be part of the interview. If there are any language issues, the interviewer, who is usually very conversant in the native language, will translate the question immediately.

As far as DS-230 goes, there's another thread here that expounds on that.

Getting to that D 230 thread

Bernie - thanks for the answer. How do I get to that D 230 thread? Sorry to be so inexperienced at all of this. And, very grateful you are.

I went with my fiancee (now wife) for her K-1 VISA interview. They let me into the embassy and the waiting room. I assisted her with the paperwork but when it came time for the actual interview you will not be allowed into the room. My wife is shy and her knowing that I was in the next room provided her with morale support that she needed.
My Fiancee arrived here on a K-1 VISA.
