  • Re newing passports for GB whilst living in US

    Hi

    I have a bit of a problem.
I arrived here in the US on the 26th April and plan to marry my fiance on the 25th June.
I know that it will be a while before I can return to the UK to visit my family but I have to change my passport to my new married name once married, but if I book flight tix stating my new surname, my passport is going to have my maiden name on it so how do I travel back? or do I travel back to the UK with my passport still under my maiden name, same as the ticket? get a new passport whilst in the UK and ask the airlines to alter my surname on my ticket for my return journey back here to the US?

I know I wont be the first person to have had this dilemma so any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

My wifes passport is in her maiden name and uses the passport as primary picture ID. Sometimes they question the different last name but she just shows her marriage certificate and a secondary picture ID with my last name. With the marriage certificate and secondary picture ID we have not had any problems with banks or stores, but we have not yet tried airlines but I think they would accept the marriage certificate too.

Better to contact the airline directly and ask their policy, I am sure they have dealt with name changes allot in the past.
My Fiancee arrived here on a K-1 VISA.
    Conditional GreenCard has been received.

Perhaps, you can try the British Consulate/Embassy here in the US and have a new passport (expedited) issued in your married name (proof being the marriage certificate). And then book your tickets. Or do as Russell advised.

Thank you so much guys, since posting yesterday I have found out online that I can indeed "re new" my passport by sending it off with appropriate docs to the British Embassy in washington, to reflect my new married surname.

Your help, as always is much appreciated.
