My attorney sent my K1 paperwork to Chicago. Not California, not Vermont (where it should have gone), but to Chicago. WHY on earth would she send my K1 paperwork to Chicago, when Chicago doesn't process K1's?

Is it common for "immigration attorneys" to send your paperwork to the wrong processing center? If she files K1 applications all the time? Now I have a receipt from Fedex showing when my paperwork was received at the WRONG place, but no idea when it was sent/received at the RIGHT place, if it was. The check still hasn't been cashed, so I have no receipt number for my case at all.

And the kicker - in her email to tell me this, she asked, "Are you planning to call your Senator/State Representative to assist?"

Can I call my Senator/Rep to teach her how to do her job?

Has anyone else gone through this? Sorry for the rant, but I'm really frustrated.

    You had to ask.

My wife's I-130 and I-129F were favorably adjudicated in 2.5 months. I called their law offices practically every other day or so asking if anything had come through as far as the next steps. Dumb idiots. Nothing was said to me and finally one day, I lost it and that stirred the pot. And somehow, it came out that they had rec'd a case number 6 weeks prior ago and sat on it. I surmise they had no clue as to what that meant or what they could do with it.

It turned out that issuance of a case number = interview ready. So, I took matters in to my own hand, called the consulate, and got my wife an interview, etc. So, to make a long story short, we go no packets at any time from the consulate or anyone else.

No thanks to these dummies, the rest of the process went over very smoothly. With my wife safely here in the US on a K3, I fired the nincompoops.

They then had the gall to suggest that their services were "superior, timely and effective" and thus should be fully compensated. I told them to take a flying.. at the moon, and withheld final payment. I threatened a negligence law suit, pain and suffering (at protracted separation from spouse and expenses in maintaining two households). A Senior partner realized that I was not your average FOB and wrote an oily letter, acknowledged no wrong doing but absolved me off any more $ liabilities.

Calling a senator or any US Rep is sure to ruffle fragile egos at consulates. Do not do it.

      Thanks, Bernie.

I went with this attorney because, as a paralegal myself, she offered to barter with me for her fees. I know more about family law than she does, so she wants me to draft her family law cases for her, and in turn she looks over the paperwork I compiled for the visa and will sit in on his AOS interview once he's here.

I can't afford an attorney but was told having one would greatly help our chances at no snafus (sp?) when it comes to the green card side of things. This seemed like my only choice.

Looking back, it doesn't seem like a good choice, given that she's the one who told me that Peter should apply for a tourist visa INTENDING to come over here and marry me, so we could circumvent the K1 visa processing time, since I didn't have the time to wait before our wedding once I had the money to pay for it. She told me we technically weren't supposed to do things that way, but there were loopholes that could be exploited if we did when it came time to getting his green card.

He was denied because he's self-employed and had given up his flat more than a year before after a bad flatmate had cost him a small fortune. Since he couldn't come over in time, we lost ALL of our deposits on the wedding, and are having to wait until December now. I'm so frustrated I could spit nails.

wow, sorry to hear that. Its actually not that bad doign it yourself. THough i dont' really know whats the harder? the first interview? or the AOS interview (there's an interview at this point?). Whats the delay caused by this person? Is he here in states? If so becareful of the 90 day period.

He's still in England, so we're not under the gun on the 90 days, but it's really frustrating not knowing what's going on.

Ok, I finally heard back from my attorney just now. Apparently when she went to send the package out the first time to Vermont, the UPS website pulled up her last-used address automatically, and since she's so used to sending things to the lockbox in Chicago, she did it by mistake. She apologized for her error, and told me as soon as she received it back she expedited it to Vermont. It was received there on June 1st, so she's expecting my check will clear ANY day now.

She told me that after we've got a case number she wants us to get in touch with Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) and see if he can use Congressional Tracking to help us expedite things, because she thinks my fiance and I have a 'compelling story'. I don't see what would make us more compelling than the next guy, but there you go. At this point, I'll take all the help I can get.

So, first milestone. It was received at the VSC on June 1st. Waiting for NOA1/Check to cash. FINGERS CROSSED!

So, you are in "SwitzerLand" (aka - Oooooooooklahoma!.. where the winds come rushing down the plains and the waving wheat..., eh? Cool.

I would really wait on talking to Dr. Coburn and his staff. My experience with using such contacts has proven counterproductive in the past. Looks like things are back on track.

Yes, Bernie. I'm in the land of eternal wind (Because Kansas blows and Texas sucks.) There's really not much here except a lot of red dirt, and a few armadillos (at least a few that haven't been run over yet).

I'm with you on waiting about contacting Coburn. Honestly, I don't know what makes our story so "compelling". I'm a single mom with 2 children. We met online and waited a year before meeting in person to make sure we were serious. We've been together 2 years, and are in love. What makes that more compelling than the next couple going through the SAME process, I don't know.

Here's hoping that it all goes smoothly from here.

Now, that is succinct and accurate!

                  IT WILL.

Hoping to make it to Owen field for a few games with my wife this fall.

The Check cleared, but there's no number on the back with EAC in front of it. The only number on the whole thing is an R.

I've been waiting for weeks for this thing to clear so I'd have the number, and so far it's useless.

                    Any ideas?
