My fiancee is from the Philippines but she now lives and works in Macau. Since Macau does not have a US Consulate she had to go to Hong Kong for the medical exam and interview. This did make things a bit more complicated but so far it has worked out.
She had her interview just a few days ago which she passed and is now waiting to receive her stamped passport which they said she would receive early next week. The problem was she had to return to Macau since she is still working and Macau requires passport to reenter even though coming from Hong Kong. Macau and Hong Kong are technically part of China but they still maintain their own regulations relating to immigration and travel etc. So my fiancee had a friend from Hong Kong follow her to Macau and then the friend took her passport and returned it to the US consulate in Hong Kong. Complicated, I know, but that is what the consulate recommended.
My finacee's interview was nearly 3 hours altogether which I understand is a bit unusual. They asked her a ton of questions.. especially dates. Also, there were two interviewers and they asked some of the exact same questions.. I assume to verify consistency of her answers. They made her stand up during the interviews... it was like a bank teller window. They were friendly but very particular and detailed. They checked everything and asked her to verify things that didnt quite make sense to them. She did great and answered everything honestly and to the best of her knowledge. We also spent a great deal of time and effort making sure we had all the correct forms and documents which is critical to having a good interview result.
Anyway she and I so relieved that it is over with and now we wait for the passport to be returned and then final plans for the wedding which will be in about 2 months in the US. Cheers!
