  • Fiancee Visa versus Tourist Visa

    Hi,
Hope someone can give me an advice on this. I am US citizen originally from Lebanon. I recently engaged to someone from Lebanon and we aren't planning to get married till Sept / Oct this year. So I can't submit the I-130. In the interim I would like her to visit the US as I have been doing the traveling back and forth and running out of vacation
Do I apply for the I-129 or do I ask her to apply for a tourist visa and I provide her with an invitation letter along with I-134
Let me know your thoughts on this

Apologize if I posted in the wrong place

    Thanks

    RB

If she intends to visit the US and then leave (including if she marries during her visit and then leaves), then a tourist visa is appropriate (although there is still increased chance of denial).

If she intends to come to the US, marry and then stay without leaving, then a fiance visa is appropriate.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

Thank you for the response. Well we are planning to marry in Sept/Oct in Lebanon and then I will apply using the I-130 for spouse. My idea is till we get married what is the best way to bring her to visit as currently I am the one whom been traveling back and forth. Ofcourse if she comes the intention is to go back as the wedding is happening in Lebanon and not in the US. The only concern I have about the tourist visa is the possibility of denial though I am capable of providing all the financial support needed. I don't want to jeopardize when I go ahead and submit the I-130 as I know when I do so it could take upto 1 year even more to be with her after marriage
