  • Question K1 VISA - MEDICAL PROCESS

1.Who will set the medical appointment? Am I the one who will choose the date or the letter will already state the date when I need to take the medical exam?

    2. How long will a medical exam for a K1 visa take? regardless of the vaccination taken or will take as required.

    3. What if I already have the vaccine before under our benefits from school or company, but I don't have a certificate of proof, do I need to take it again?

    4. Below is the list, Do you really need to complete all these?

    # --o Mumps
    # --o Measles
    # --o Rubella
    # --o Polio
    # --o Tet**** and Diphtheria Toxoids
    # --o Pertussis
    # --o Haemophilus influenzae type B
    # --o Hepatitis B

Thanks in advance if you can answer my questions.

    hey bud,

The medical examination is done in one day and then the blood work and xray should be easy too. Leave the vaccination decision to the physician you are going to see...they know what to do about it. Don't worry about it at ALLLLLLLL. Did you get your notice of approval? I have the same receipt notice as yours.

    Good luck.

The answers to most of your questions depends on the country where you live. Each consulate sets up the plan for the medical exam and approves the place(s) where it can be done. Name the consulate to get a more accurate response.

Concerning immunizations: A K1 doesn't have to get any immunizations to get a visa. You can get them now or wait until you get to the US. You will have to meet the requirements before you file for Adjustment of Status and have a Civil Surgeon fill out the immunization section of the I-693 if you get shots in the US.

      For AOS, most adults get:

MMR - a combination of mumps, measles, rubella
Tdap or DTP - tetnus, diptheria, acellular pertussis
Varicella - which is excused if you have already had chickenpox

If you get these shots at your family doctor, you must bring proof to your medical exam to get them recorded on the DS-3025 immunization form. They will give you a copy of that for your records.

Anybody waiting on K1 petition approval would be wise to be seeing their doctor now and getting shots and written records prepared early, including a statement if you had chickenpox. If you can manage to get those 3 things recorded on your visa medical record (DS-3025 immunization form) then you won't have to pay money to a civil surgeon in the US. The key is having everything needed. If you are missing anything or get a shot after the exam or in the US, you will have to see a civil surgeon. Not all of these shots are available in every country and you may have to wait to get them.

Anyone here can give me an estimate how much is a shot for each vaccination

          MMR -
          Tdap or DTP -
          Varicella -

Can you recommend a hospital where I can get these in a low price here in Manila.

          Thank you.

My wife went through the medical exam in Manila last April. St Luke's does not take appointments, you just show up (early) on the day you want to go. You will need your appointment email from the embassy to get in. The exam and tests take one day, then you go back on the second day to get the results. So allow at least two days.

It is best to wait to get the vaccinations at St Luke's. I had Yolanda get vaccinated for hepatitis and the pap virus before, because I thought it was a good idea, and those are taken over several months. The rest she got at St Luke's - they know what you need.
