  • Passport Validity & K3 Visa.

Hi! Everyone, this is sajib from dhaka, bangladesh. I have been schedule for an interview for K3 visa next month which my wife had applied for me. Now, here's the problem. My passport is valid till 7th April, 2011. but in this website **** its been written that the passport should be valid 6 to 8 months beyond the intended date of entry into the United States.

So, everyone please give me some suggestion. what should I do now? I have only one month left for the visa interview.

The instructions from London clearly say they won't give a visa if the passport is valid for less than 6 months and I would guess your consulate is the same. Read your instructions from them.

So I would suggest you try to get a passport quickly even if you have to pay an extra fee for speed. Or change your interview appointment to a later date when you can have a new passport.

Your visa will be glued in the passport and will get a K3 in and out of the US for two years. What would you do after April with a new passport and no visa inside? Then you would be back asking how to get your visa in your passport.

Thanx nichole for the suggestion. Yeah, I think I have to get a new passport the get the visa. Do you think its bad if I contact my local consulate office over the phone?

But Nichole, I have another concern. I have already sent them the copy of my present passport. So, If I have a new passport now, isn't that gonna be a problem?

Okay, in 2 seconds I found the instructions on the Bangladesh US Embassy website. It is telling what to bring to the interview and to make photocopies to bring also. You should have these instructions and know the answer to the question you first asked. They tell you straight out with no need to "hear" about it on a forum. It says:

PASSPORT: Every intending immigrant must have a valid passport regardless of age. The passport must have at least eight months validity beyond the issuance date of the visa.

So you go to the embassy for your interview with a new passport. They look at it and put the photocopy you bring in your file. If there was any question about something you sent before, you are face to face with the people processing your case. Talk to them. Tell them why you have a new passport if they ask. [Because the old one would expire in 4 months] Is your name the same, does the photo look like you? Is it valid for 8 months past your visa? I don't think it's a problem.
