  • proof of current sustained for contract worker

Hello Immihelp members! My fiance's income last year (2009)was below the poverty guideline,a co sponsor is not allowed in USEM Manila. We need to establish that i will never be a public charge with his current sustained income. My fiance is recently hired last SEPTEMBER 15, 2010. as a full time independent contractor for 2 years and he will be receiving 3000 monthly.. my question is AS A SELF EMPLOYED FULL TIME CONTRACT LABOR AND NOT EMPLOYEE OF THE COMPANY WHAT ARE THE PROOF OF INCOME I SHOULD PRESENT TO THE CONSUL OFFICER IN MY INTERVIEW? To anyone who has over come the same problem please help me,interview will be on january 5 2010...thank you so much

I'm not familiar with Manila and I hear they tend to be a bit strict, but I can offer some ways to show your income. I don't know how Manila will accept them.

--A letter from the company that has contracted you stating your position; hours worked per week and hourly wage, or salary; how long the contract lasts.

--as many pay stubs (up to 6 months worth) as you have showing the payments to you.

--bank statements showing that money going into your account at regular intervals.

Thank you so much nichole for the big help.yes his employer will write in stationery letter head. He will be paid 3000 monthly. Its a 2 year contract... will a 2 year contract be enough?or do we need to ask the him to write annual income earned? or will he quit this job and find regular job?

I think it should be good enough. Your fiance can also write a letter explaining his position, where he works, etc as well as the salary. Many companies hire people as contractors because they don't want to have to be responsible for providing health insurance, social security taxes, income tax withholding. It's a way for companies to save money in these hard economic times. So while your fiance is working just like he is their employee, he is stuck being responsible for benefits a company would provide to their employees.

It's a very different kind of "self-employed" than those who started up their own business. He works regular hours for the same company everyday and gets a regular monthly paycheck from them. Maybe he can explain that in a letter so they understand his situation is regularly employed with a constant source of money coming in. He could describe himself as a "contract employee" for XYZ Company. That's a good term.
