  • K1 Interview Process

    Hello Fellow K1 Processors,

Thought you'd like to know the interview process my fiancé (the beneficiary) and I (the petitioner) went through for the K1 interview. This process is for the US Embassy - Manila. I am the petitioner and I was able to attend the whole interview.

For details prior to the interview it’s included in my signature.

The interview date was Jan 19, 2011 at 7:15am. We arrived at 6:30am, better to be early than late. When we arrived there was a TON of people there waiting outside but those are for non-immigrant visas. This process is considered an Immigrant visa and you should not wait outside, it's a waste of time. Make sure you tell them K1 and they will direct you to go inside and wait.

Once inside you will go to the windows on the right (registration window) and give them the appointment letter, 2 copies of the DS-156, 2 copies of the DS-157, 1 copy of the DS-156k, and the receipt from BPI or BDO showing proof of payment for the application fee of $350.

After registration (6:35am), you have to wait. This whole process consisted of 75% waiting and 25% interview/fingerprint scanning. After about 45 mins our number was called for the pre-interview. At the pre-interview the lady (Filipina) asked for his birth certificate, CENOMAR, police certificates, Tax forms, W2 and employer letter. She checked a chart to make sure I, the sponsor, was 100% above the poverty level. She asked a few questions like: When and where did the two of us meet. If he, the beneficiary, has ever travel out of the Philippines. She also asked for pictures, she took a look at a few then gave them back and said to make sure to show them to the consul. This pre-interview lasted less then 10 mins.

After that we waited again for about 30-45mins and his name was called for fingerprint scanning. Once done with that we waited again for the final interview. We waited about 1.5-2hrs. There were only 8 applicants there for the fiancé interview. All eight were called before us and we were last called, even though we were number 4 in line. The files are called in no particular order and it also depends which consul has the file and how long they take to get to it.

Once called for the final interview (10:50am), we were hoping for a female consul since we have heard they seem to be nicer. We ended up in window 28 with a female consul (American).

We went into the interview and she only asked about 2 or 3 questions. She asked if we still worked for the company, which he already resigned and only I still do. Then she asked how many times I have been to the Philippines (4). There was a lot of silence and the interview lasted about 5 mins. She didn't even ask for pictures or any other proof. After the long silence, the consul looked up and said the best words I've ever heard, other than from my fiancé "Ok, your visa is approved!" She also told us to wait one last time for release.

Release is just to give the shipping address for them to send the visa/passport. We got out of the Us Embassy at about 11:30am. Spent almost 6 hours there but was 110% worth it.

Sorry for the long drawn out story but I thought you would like the details, as I would. This may help you prepare for the interview at the US Embassy Manila.

    Goodluck!
