passport visa

i have applied for passport renewal but after applying for renewal my company is providing me onsite opportunity to france(it might be in 1month time) , & i have not recieved the new passport, can i go to france with the current (old) passport or do i need to wait until i get new passport, is the old passport still valid to travel ? can i get stamping on old passport which has the validity upto 01-2012. plz can any one suggest on this issue.
