Hi all,
My partner and I are wanting to get married and we think we have run into an obstacle with the k1 visa application, although not sure.
We were going to apply for the k1 visa after my trip to the US (I'm in Australia) in March, but she lost her job shortly after. She is currently starting up her own business but at the same time is now also on social security (she has two kids, etc). I will likely have enough money saved to support myself for 3-6 months and obviously have no intention of being a "cost to the public."
What is the protocol for a situation like this? Are we going to have to wait until her new business is earning money over the poverty guideline? Does she have to be totally off social security before applying? I'm sure this situation isn't unique at the moment, given the climate.
Any advice would be really appreciated. We are sick of waiting.
Cheers,
Ben.
