Marriage in the US

I am a UK citizen my partner is a US resident. We want to get married in the US but I live and work overseas and do not plan as yet to reside in the states. I can enter the states under Esta as I hold a UK passport. Do I need a spouse visa to get married eventhough I will be returning within 20 days???

Any advice would be much appreciated.

You can go and get married in the US but you as you said must leave and then your spouse needs to apply for a spousal visa for you to come back and live n the states. If asked at POE intention of your stay I would not tell them you plan to get married. As they could turn you away and possible think you have intentions of staying.
