  • U.S. resident - how can I bring my wife in the U.S. more quickly?

    Hello!

I am a U.S. resident of 3 years. Going to get married in Romania in December 2011. I ask for your help, please advise me how can I bring my wife in the U.S. as soon as possible. According "uscis.gov" a resident can bring their wife after a period of 30 months from filing the forms. If you know any faster way please tell me. My e-mail address is: [email protected]

    Thank you!

It's more like 6-8 months. Follow the guides for a CR1 visa. Learn what you will need from her to complete the I-130 petition package so you can get those things while there to avoid her having to mail them to you.
From her--Form G325A signed by her, 2 US sized passport photos., and if married before, a photocopy of her divorce decree.

Also a copy of your marriage certificate. If not in English, also a certified translation.

Meanwhile learn the documents she will need (after your petition is approved) for the NVC like her birth certificate, police report, etc All will need a translation. She can get that taken care of while waiting on the petition.

Also she will need immunizations so she could get that done way in advance. It goes faster if you know what comes next and are ready the day they notify you instead to scrambling to gather documents after they officially notify you of the next step.
    1. Petition to USCIS. Fees.
    2. NVC processing. Fees. Documents and forms mailed in.
    3. Her country: Medical exam. Interview.

Permanent resident only - Can I apply for CR1 visa?

      Hello!

      Thank you for your answer!
Are you sure I can apply for CR1 visa, as long as I have only permanent resident status?
Please help me with more details.

      Thank you!

Oh sorry, I didn't realize your status was LPR. That will take some time. You can petition after you marry, but you get in a queue waiting for visa availability. When her number comes up, then the rest of the visa process can continue. So the earlier you file the I-130, the sooner she gets in the line for a visa. That will be what is called her proprity date.

If you become a US citizen before her priority date is being served, you can notify USCIS of the change. Then as the wife of a USC, she jumps to the head of the line because there is no limit on visas available and no wait except the processing procedures. The first part (I-130 petition) will already be done so that wait will be over. Remaining will be the National Visa Center and Embassy parts of the process.
