4 months - K1&K2 still in 'Initial Review'

Hello, I am an American citizen who had submitted a K1 and K2 on August 19, 2011.

I have a coworker who filed July 7, 2011 for a fiancee from the same country and who
now has a visa approved. In fact, he recieved his second notice of action in September.
Both cases filed in the Vermont center.

Of course I called USCIS and asked, and of course they told me to wait until Jan 19, 2012
(5 months) to see why my application is slow or lost, etc...

Is there any reason why this would be taking longer than my friends? Am I worrying too much?

Your friend got very lucky. Your case is normal. And the times can change dramatically month to month. From data of approved petitions at California Service Center:
--People approved in Sept were averaging 70-80 days wait
--People approved in October were averaging 125 days.
--December it's 150 days
Yes, it changes that much.

Vermont Service Center has been more even.

Maybe the guy who worked on his petition was really fast and knocked out lots of work in a day. Maybe the box your petiton is in, is on the desk of a slow worker who has also been out sick. It's never really in order by exact date of filing. And sometimes in October the service centers shift a lot of their workers over to the work visas because those all flood in at that time.

I filed on July 5, 2011, and I received my letter that the petition has been approved today.

My friend's fiancee arrived in US on 12/21/2011

Ok, my coworker's fiancee who I mentioned in my first post has arrived in the US. I am very happy for him...
So it appears his wait was almost 6 months.

And robw47 mentions below receipt of approval 12/21/2011.

So I guess I should be expecting late Jan - Feb for my case.

My application has been approved!

My K1/K2 applications was approved on 01/03/2012.

So from my 1st notice of action of receipt 08/19/2011 to approval on 01/03/2012
it has taken me about 4.5 months.

Just FYI for those who are curious about their own application processing time.
