  • Residence after marriage?

After I (USA citizen) marry my fiance (Spanish citizen), obviously she can live in the US. But can I also legally live in Spain? Is our USA marriage recognized in other countries?

That would be up to the government of Spain. They could have as much paperwork/fee requirement as the US does. Find a government website for Spain and start searching.

Am sure that Spain recognizes its own citizens'(your fiancee) marriage to foreigners (you) if a proper marriage licence was issued. Having said that, some countries do not recognize religious ceremonies unless the license was issued by the church (ex Italy, Greece, Russia, Serbia, Romania). Such European countries, where religion is big part of life, certain authorities have been given to the church...

Under EU regulations, Spain has specific procedure for alien residency. In Europe, due to the constant migration of people from northern Africa, Middle East and Asia (illegally most of the times) Americans are thought to have it easier when filing for residency due to marriage. As it is said the fees and time for process may differ from country to country.
