  • Affidavit of suport

i'm American and have been living in Russia for the past three years with my Russian wife. Now I am living in the states and plan to file a K3 for my wife to come here.
The minimum income for us would be around $18,500. I'm on Social Security now and get about $ 17,000 per year from that.. Anyway I'm about $950 short of the minimum standard income for 2 people. To suppliment my Social security income I plan to start working part time. My question is: can I show check stubs for 2-3 months of work to make up for this difference...or do I have to wait and show a tax return? I don't want to wait that long and getting a co-sponsor is not going to work for me...any ideas?"
    Thanks !

You do not have to wait until the necessary income shows on your tax returns, but you do have to have sufficient evidence to prove that your current income is above the poverty guidelines.
In addition, you may use your assets (real estate, CDs, etc. - anything that can be turned into cash within a year). If you use your assets, then for your wife you have to show that you have enough of them to cover three times the difference between the poverty guidelines and your income. That would be three times $950.

    Hope this helps.
