It will be probably be 5-6 months before the approved petition goes to the consulate, so if your fiance will be legal in the UK for another 8+months then put London. Otherwise put the location where he/she will be. Another problem with London is many born in certain countries (not in the UK) are often put in additional processing and have to wait several more months after the interview before the visa is issued. That means even longer time needed in the UK. I don't understand what you wrote as when the visa will expire. May 2012? May 2013?
If it's May 2013, then fine to put London I think.

I remember a person in the same situation as you last year who had a fiance with an expired visa just before the interview. She was able to re-enter the UK as a visitor for the interview. I can't find the email but I think it was also Africa. She also didn't have additional processing. Wish I remembered, but Africa has a lot of countries and so may not be the same. It's extra security checking the beneficiary goes through in London sometimes depending on the country of birth.

      best option??(NICOLE)

      Thanks nicole

We are looking at which option be quicker - use the london consulate or her home consulate?? . Her student visa expires may 2013 , she has a work permit which helps us financial, but its not gonna serve us any better if london consulate may delay her process.Even if she gets the visa, she plans to go home for about 2months to be with her family before coming here- she hasnt been home in 4 yrs!!- missses her mom. been in uk for 5 yrs now

She is unsure and a little afraid if she decide to use her countries consulate as choice, and the process delays, then she is missing out with work, etc in london and dont wanna go back and forth.

Am trying to calm her down so she feels safe going back home for her visa, but want to know if that will be a better option that london.Am putting her application through on by march 16th- waiting for some documents from her

Am counting of ur input. Your previous input really did help alot

I'd go with London. It's an easy consulate. Ghana is not one of the countries fequently mentioned for additional security checks it's all speculation but--

Individuals born in one of the seven countries currently designated as state sponsors of terrorism, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Sudan, or Syria.

Individuals born in one of the “List of 26” countries which the USCIS has not publicized but includes Arab and Muslim countries including: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Eritrea, Lebanon, Morocco, North Korea, Oman, Qatar, Somalia, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, and Kuwait among others.

London does not ask for additional proof of relationship at the interview. It's an easy 5 minute chat and not an interrogation. Visa is received 3-5 days after interview usually. I think going back and forth to Ghana would be difficult. Accra has a lot of rules for picking up application packets in person and it takes all day. Wednesdays only. (I read this on another website.) London's procedure and forms are all on the embassy webpage. I don't think she will have additional processing security checks. She will need a police certificate from Ghana and the UK.

Copied from the Dept of State website:

        Police Records
Ghana Police Clearance Certificate: Available. Residents of Ghana should report to the headquarters branch of the Criminal Investigations Division of the Ghana Police Authority in Accra, where a fingerprint sample will be taken. Cost for preparation of the certificate is approximately $7 USD (higher for expedited service), payable in local currency, for preparation within 7 days. Non-residents should forward a letter of request for a Police Certificate for Immigration Purposes. Accompanying the letter should be a certified sample of the applicant's fingerprints and an international money order in the amount of $80 USD made out to "Commissioner of Police, Ghana." Forward these documents to the following address:

        Commissioner of Police
        Criminal Investigations
        Department Headquarters
        PO Box 505
        Accra, Ghana
