Affidavit of support question

I live in Ohio, united states and my Fiancé lives in London England.
I am wanting to know when the affidavit of support is required when filing the K1 visa. He called his consulate and they said it is not needed until change of status is filed, But I am reading different online here.
And secondly will they count child support I receive or SSI payments as income for the affidafvit of support to be approved?

If you mean that your fiance will be applying for K1 visa, you need to provide your fiance with affidavit of support.
