Can I enter the US on a tourist visa and marry my boyfriend?

Hello,

I've been dating my boyfriend for over 2 years. We met and lived in the Caribbean but desire now to go to the US and to get married.
Can I enter the US with a tourist visa, get married and then apply for the different paperwork to get my immigration status strait or would it make it things more difficult?

Entering the US with a non-immigrant visa (for example a B1/B2) with the intent of immigrating is considered as being visa fraud. The proper way of doing it would be to use the K1 visa (provided that he’s a US citizen).

CAN you? sure, you CAN do it. SHOULD you? probably not. You really should enter the US on the correct Visa. Like the previous post says, it would be Visa fraud if you enter with different intentions than the visa that was issued to you. Sometimes you can marry here and complete all of your paperwork here, but many times you will have to leave the US and then come back on the appropriate visa. In my opinion, you should do it the right way with the fiance visa. The benefit of having the tourist visa is that you can come visit him while you wait for the fiance visa. Good luck to you!
