  • 2008 to 2012 k1 changes?

    Hello;

    I basically, petitioned my financee, in 2008, & the process was approved. Our relationship however was not mature at the time,
    and we separated for a season. Now we both feel much more ready. My question is, I prepared the forms, & package 4 years back
    successfully, and started with my efforts by somewhat doing what I did then, with some appropriate changes & updates.
    Does anyone know how much the process, or procedures have changed in 4 years. Do I need to get an updated do it yourself
    kit to be on the safe side, or do these things somewhat stay the same. I'm thinking I shoud get a new updated kit, to be on the
    safe side, but I'll probably just see a whole lot of repetition.

    Thanks, for any response;

    I don't think you need a kit. Why spend money when everything is free to download? Every form has instructions. There are many free websites with detailed guidance.

    To answer your question, many of the forms have been updated so get the latest versions from uscis.gov. The petition process remains pretty much the same. Fees have changed so get that from uscis also. K1 petitions are now all filed at the Texas Lockbox rather than directly to the service center. After initial processing it will be forwarded to Vermont or California for processing. The Texas Lockbox address is in the I-129F form instructions.

    I don't know if your embassy has changed procedures or not. London has changed many things since 2008.

      What about financee's photo?

      Hello;

      Thanks for your replying to the thread. It was quite helpfull. I'm now just wondering about my financees photo. What are the options these days? Could I have
      her get it taken, and possibly send it too me by email, wherebye i could get it reproduced, like at a drug store passport qualitly. I know things are changing in the photo world, I just had some photos reproduced that she took on her phone during my last trip to see her. I thought maybe she could have it done at a passport booth, to make sure it's right, but then send me the file, & i could have it made where i'm at, saving the shipping costs & time etc.
      What are the options for the photos?

      Thanks,

        This website deletes my posts if I put in a link so find this on your own. Go to the Dept of State website like you are going to get a US passport. Look around and on one of the pages about halfway down is a photo tool for creating your own US sized passport photo. She can take a digital photo and email it to you. (Make sure to follow the guidelines on the Passport web pages about white background, no shadows, etc.) Then you use the tool to line up and create a 2"x2" passport photo you can print at home if you have photo paper. Or take to the drugstore and print on one of those kiosk machines. I think it does 2 photos that print on a 4x6 photo paper then you cut it out. I did mine at home, taking a pic in the garage because it was the only white wall and printed at home too. I just cant remember if it did 2 or1 photo on an otherwise white 4x6 photo page. I used mine for my passport renewal.

        A tip--The photo she takes should show half or more of her torso to work well. The tool will do the sizing up and cropping. If she takes just a close up headshot, it will be too big to size down--a mistake I made when I did one of just head and shoulders.

          Medical Testing in advance

          Hello;

          I can't figure out how to post a new thread in this forum; any help is appreciated. So I"m starting with an old one
          My finance, & I have known each other for over 5 years. I've just recently sent the petioning papers again. I did
          this around 4 years back, but we didn't follow through. My finance had some scaring on her lung, & we made it through the
          medical testing, & acceptance and all, but i'm wondering; is there a way to speed that part up. The last time we went through
          this, I believe it took two months for the medical procedures, to be done.
          They just recieved my petition, acceptance & they said it was recieved 8-6-12. So i'm thinking it's going to take 5 or 4 months around.
          I hate to add another 2 months for the medical after that; is there a way to get your testing done before hand, or while we're waiting.
          We've already waited quite a long time in the relationship, & I'd just as soon get things rolling;

          Thanks, for any input;
