Travelling India when h1b renewal in progress.

My Initial H1b is expiring in Oct 2013 and my renewal I-129 filed on July 30 2012, Still in “Initial Review” status (It’s been 5 and 1/2 months nearly).

In this situation I am leaving US on next week and if I left, will my renewal get any issues.

Also if the renewal got approved in the time when I am in India, what steps should I take. Please advise.

First of all it is strange that extension petition was filed more than 6 months in advance. It is possible that extension of status part of the petition may get denied (may get approved but without I-94). If that happens your employer will have to file amendment to extend your status or you will have to again leave the country and return to get updated I-94.
