H4 to F1

Hi Gurus,

I am not a resident but going to file my 485 when the dates become current.
Meanwhile, my son would turn 21 years of age this October.

Please clarify the following:

1) Should he move into any other independent visa like, H1 or F1 or choose to continue to be in H4, just staying at home?

2) How many credit course will be considered to be a full time for a F1 visa?

Yes, he will not be able to stay in dependent status.
For F1 it needs to be a degree program and each school has their own requirement as to what counts as full-time. Generally it is 9 credits.
