Passport Renewal , visa expiring in 2013

Hi All,

My Indian Passport is expiring in June 2014, and my visa is expiring in July last week 2013. I also need to file for visa extension(hoping to get 3 yrs extension as my I-140 is approved) within 3-4 months from now. But when is the right time to renew passport, I am looking to apply for renewal in 1-2 weeks, but I heard that I can only apply for renewal before 1 year of expiration of passport. I would also like to know when I should apply my visa extension, because I should give my passport details too while applying for visa extension.

Please suggest me on this.

Since your passport is expiring in July 2014, you cannot apply for the passport renewal before July 2013. Once you apply, it will take a couple of months to get the passport renewed. So you don't have any options left here, you can apply for the extension of stay now using the current passport.

It takes only 1 week (maximum 3 weeks if VFS have queries) to get renewed passport. You can apply for passport renewal 1 year before the expiration of passport.
