H1B Transfer from Nonprofit to Corporate

Hi,

I am currently on H4. A non profit organisation is reay to sponsor my H1B in September 2005. Later, if I wish to transfer my H1 to a corporate firm (after the H1 has reached cap) in May 2006, will I be allowed to work for the new person from May-Oct 2006? Or I can start only on the 1st Oct 2006, once I get my H1?

Any pointers in this regard would be really helpful to me.
