H1b Transfer After Petition Expiry

I have my h1b petition approved but haven't yet stamped the visa. The petition has been approved till Sept 2013, and my employer says that he wants me to wait for couple of months before I can go for stamping. I want to know whether I would still be eligible for h1b transfer from some other company after the petition expiry or i must do it before the expiry date ? Thanks in Advance!.

You should do it before the current petition expiration date to maintain the H1B status.
