H1X - Want to change job in USA

Hi,


My H1B visa expires in Sep 2013. I am currently with an Indian company in Charlotte and have 1.6 years remaining on my visa. I want to quit my company and either join a US firm or worst case go for contracting work. I would love to continue in US for a longer duration.

I would like some advice on how to proceed. Also I am married with a 1 year old son, and hence have some qualms about joining a consulting / contracting firm. Would appreciate any advice on this front too.

You can certainly change a job to new employer provided they sponsor your H1B visa.

You can't become independent contractor. You need sponsor.
