Want passport back from consulate while H1B VISA in Admin Process

I attended my VISA interview 9 months back that time VO kept my passport and issued 221g but since then its in admin process. Now I want my passport back but I want to keep process on, how can I get my passport back?

I am on te same Boat .I have already given the written application two months back but still no luck .I think te best way would be to call te embassy directly. US travel docs is of no use
