Can I travel to India during H1 filing process, currently on L1-B

I'd like to know its feasible to travel to India from 1st Jul 2013 to 31Jul 2013 during H1 filing process. Currently on L1B ( Company A) and valid till Jun 2014 and also I94 valid till Jun 2014. Please advise. H1b filing is currently being done by company-B.
My travel is planned in jul for 3-4 weeks in India. Please advise precautions/ information in this regard.

If COS gets abandoned due to my travelling , what is the procedure next to get approval.
Will it affect my H1B petition?
Will I need to work on COS?

I am also facing same situation and would need some expert suggestion.
Also our consultant attorney says, I need to return back from India within 30 days.
Otherwise the H1B filing would cancel automatically and may need to resubmit the application with full fees amount.
Right now I got Receipt number about my L1 to H1 transfer and would like to travel to India between July to August 2013.
Please advice whether it is exactly 30 days and the consequences if it cross 30 days of my travel.
