Will H4 extension override H1 Visa

My H1 Visa is getting expired on July 30th, so I have raised request for H1 extension along with my wife's H4 visa.We have filed the H1 visa for my wife through a consultant.We are yet to know the status of that. So In that case

1. If we apply for H4 extension through Infosys,will it override the H1 application filed by Consultancy?

2.whether we have to go ahead with H4 extension filing?
