H4 stamping appointment with expired + transferred H1 - together or not?

I have an H1B that was used for 2.5 years, stamp got expired in 2008.
Now I have new employer from whom I got I 797 B approved.

My wife will be applying fresh for H4. Same for my 2 yr kid.

I got to know from website that my kid doesn't need any appointment.

My question is -
1) to save travel time - is it ok to schedule both our appointments together for Mumbai Consulate?
2) Or should I go with my approval first, then my wife's?

My employer recommends me to go separate, but when I read online I find views that say we should go together.
