Travel to India via London from US with less than 6 month visa validty

I came to US on 01/Jan/2013 and my visa i valid till 25/Feb/2014 and I am planning to go to India on Sep. Can I travel via UK to India without a transit visa? I have heard we need at least 6 months of validity in US visa to go through UK without a transit visa. Can you provide more information regarding this?

It is okay as long as the US Visa in passport is valid on the day of travel. There is no such 6 month thing. You don't need transit Visa.
