travelling on existing H4 after new H1-B is approved

Currently I am in US on H4 visa. I have applied for a H1-B visa, which I am expecting to approve by Oct/Nov this year. I want to visit India in Dec this year.
Can I come back in Dec/Jan on my existing H4 visa stamp, or do I have to get my new H1-B stamped before I return back to US.

Hi,
You should get H1 stamped. If you come back on your H4, you will be on H4 visa and not allowed to work.
