Need guidance for applying H1 (Urgent help needed)

Hi,

I was an international student of New York University, 2013. I seek your guidance for my visa. Presently, I am working in a non- profit company. I may work in USA on my student visa by January, 2014. I am planning to change my job. Please guide me when should I apply for my visa. I am planning to apply in October,13 so that I can change my job (in profit making) and they can sponsor my visa.
