On H4 Visa....need help on SSN Vs ITIN #

Hello Folks,


My wife had visited US in 2008-2009 for her Masters program, during which she obtained her SSN (on-campus job). She went back to India in 2009 for good. Now after marriage she came with me on dependent H4 visa.
Should I apply for her ITIN # or her SSN would be still valid?
Should I have to inform IRS about her being on H4 and holding SSN?
She knows her SSN # but doesn't have a SSN card.

Please advice

SSN valid forever

The SSN is valid forever. It's never re-assigned, ever.

Do not apply for anything else, like ITIN. It'll create more confusion that not.

Apply for a duplicate SSN card.

She can use the same SSN for tax filing, credit report or any other reason.
