Question about I-94/ H1 visa

I recently renewed my H1 visa and it is valid for three years. However my old indian passport expires in November 2005. At the port of entry the officer issued me a I-94 with "Admitted Until" date of Nov based on my passport expiration date. Now I have received my new passport but I still have the old I-94. Do I have to get the I-94 extended now? If so, how? The officer mentioned that the I-94 should get extended automatically when I renew my passport, but I would like to get a second opinion.
