Can i renew H1(valid Dec,11 - Jan,14) approved petition(not stamped) after it expire?

I have approved H1 petition from X company valid from Dec,2011 - Jan, 2014 without stamping. I never travel to US or any other so far.

Now I am trying to transfer to another Y company. 1. Is this possible with this case?
2. If yes, then should it Visa stamped & extended before it expire (Jan,14) ?

In case, could not complete the step before expire nor by Y employer
3. Can i still renew after expire also without yearly gap or should come under yearly gap?

Please help me to under the scenario. I am out of US, living in India right now.
