Filed H1B Extension but awaiting Receipt number

Hi,

My current H1B visa is valid till 30-Sep-2013, and my current I-94 is valid till 05-Oct-2013. My current employer has already filed for H1B extension on my behalf on 28-Aug-2013, but they have not received the Receipt number yet. I am hoping that my employer will receive my H1B extension receipt number before my I-94 expiry date, i.e. 05-Oct-2013. But I want to know what will happen if they do not receive the receipt number before my I-94 expiry date? Will I have to return back to India immediately in that case? What other options will I be having in such a scenario? Please advise.

If you are not getting the Receipt number before I-94 expiry, you may have to travel back to India.
