  • Former consultant issue

I am posting here because I was unsure of which forum this would belong to.

Soon after my graduation in May 2012, dealing with lack of experience and a short time before my OPT unemployment period, I decided to join consultancy A. I did not sign any legal papers because I was in a training phase which was also backed with accommodation and a minimal stipend. I did however get an offer letter stating that I am employed at A with $55,000 annual income. This basically dealt with the OPT situation.

However after 6 months of unsuccessful marketing, I tried other options and ended up with a full time offer at B. The choice was obvious and I made the jump having one last talk about compensation which was agreed to be $900. Nothing was writ in paper.

After joining B, they soon offered to sponsor my H1 which is now officially my legal status. I made a few attempts to pay my previous consultancy the compensation amount but without success. I got a call recently in which the employee from A lies about the compensation saying it was $9000 and wanted me to pay more than what was agreed. When I refused, he threatened to sue me and send me a legal notice.

Are there any grounds on which this is possible? Please let me know if there is a solution to this.
