  • Does Scanned Copy of I-797 work for interview?

    Hello All,

I live and work in US. My H1B visa is expected to be approved in couple weeks while I will be in India. I will have all the mandatory documents except the original Notice of Action I-797. My lawyer will send me the scanned copy of the document. Does the scanned copy work when I go for an interview or do I have to wait till I get the original mailed to me?

Thank you for your time. I appreciate it.

Unless it came to you as an "Appointment Notice," a scannned copy of Form I-797 should be okay for immigration-related interviews. The I-797 is a generic form number for all types of USCIS notices, but most frequently as a receipt or approval status.

The original "Appointment Notice" is usually expected for official appointments, i.e., Biometrics, Adjustment or Removal of Conditions interview.
