I have a few questions:
Background
1) I am a student (F1 Visa) on OPT as a Post doc expiring on March 10.
2) My wife works in a university (on H1)
3) I am trying to stay in the academic field as a post doc or asst prof (and i am interviewing)!
Questions:
1) If I get a job in academic field (e.g. in an university that sponsors me a H1 (no quota)) , how long do universities need to process the work approximately? Basically the time needed for F1 to H1 transition..
2) If I don't find a job and i become a dependent under my wife ..how long does it take to (a) go from f1 to h4 and (2) (once i find a job) to go from h4 to h1 !
A more specific question: If it take <say> 3 months to get a h4..and i search for jobs in between...and i get a job say within a month ...what happens then? can the new university file for a h1 while my h4 paper work is going on?
Please advise! this is my first query in this direction and hence i may not have articulated well... Please let me know if you have more questions!
