Are Previous H1B petitions mandatory for fresh H1B

I got H1B approved in Dec 2006. Was in US from Feb 2007 till Sep 2008. After that came back to India and since them I am India.
Now, my current employer is filing H1B. Are previous I797 documents mandatory? I dont have any of those doscuments at present.

Kindly suggest.

One should always keep copies for future references.

For a fresh H1, technically, submission of previous H1 approval notices is not mandatory, though many employers insist on submitting any previous approval notices.
