  • Multiple H1-B visas

    Hi all,

I did an exhaustive search regarding this topic, but didn't get much help! This is my situation - My current employer A applied for a fresh H1-B in April 2013 and, after the approval, I got my visa stamped in September 2013. There were no travelling chances and so I decided to look for direct roles in US. Company B in the US processed the H1-B transfer and I got the visa stamped again, this time for Company B. I have below questions:

    1. I thought the visa from Company A would be removed from my passport and only have Company B's visa stamped. But I now have both the visas stamped. Is this normal?
    2. If yes, then can I travel using any of these visas or in essence, are both visas valid because I have not used any of the visas yet?
    3. Will there be any specific questions asked during the immigration, given my case is a bit different?

Any advice in this matter is highly appreciated!!

    Thanks,

    Hello, Vanithablr07.

The stamp on your passpaort is just the entry permit. When you enter USA, at the Port of Entry (POE), the officer would want to see your I-97. The current employer's I-97 is what determines your I94 (which is what you will furnish as you are travelling on that company's employment) and thus your stay in the USA.

What i had learnt was the visa officials generally strike off the older visa when granting a new visa. But, that might not be followed in every case.

    I hope this helps.

    Wishing you luck.

    Cheers,
These are my personal thoughts. I am not a professional.

    Wishing you luck.
