  • H1B visa stamping

    Hi,

Please help me as I am confused where to go for visa stamping.

I was in Bangalore (comes under chennai consulate region) until May 2005. After that, I have relocated to Pune (comes under mumbhai consulate region) in the month of May. I have approved H1B papers with me. In the papers, It is addressed to US Consulate, Chennai.

I have taken an appointment in chennai consulate for Nov 17th. Can I still appear for visa interview in chennai? But, I am bit worried, if I go to chennai consulate and if the officer there rejects my visa thinking that I came to the wrong consulate.

But, To appear for visa stamping in Mumbhai consulate, the applicant should have been resident of Maharastra for the past 6 months. In my case, I will exactly complete 6 months in Maharastra on Nov 16th.

Where should I go for visa stamping? Mumbhai or Chennai consulate?

Please suggest me what should I do.

    regards
    tatpat

      thanks ddlj for the reply.

I am trying for an earlier appointment in mumbhai consulate. Lets see if I will be able to get one before 17th Nov.

One more thing, in the h1b approval, It is addressed to chennai consulate. Does this mean that I have to go to chennai consulate only for visa stamping? Or Am I still good to go and attend the intrv in chennai consulate.?

      please let me know soon.

            Dear tatpat,

I think you better go to Chennai consulate only....Since, ur I-797 is addressed to chennai consulate....Moreover, which is ur native and where was ur passport issued,,,,if you belong to southern states and if ur passport was issued in chennai,,,,,then without any second thought u go to chennai consulate..

Don't take risk by going to mumbai...

            Regards,
            Ganesh....

Thanks ganesh for increasing my confidence I belong to Andhra Pradesh and My passport is issued in hyderabad. I called up chennai consulate guys too. They told me that It should not be a problem, although it entirely depends on the officer at the counter.

Sorry for being late in giving the update. I went to chennai and got h1b stamped there. I didn't face any issues there and the interview also was very cool !!
