Seeking for Advice

I was previously on OPT and my employer filed for an H1B through the Vermont Office before the August 10th deadline. Up to now, we still have not received any approval notice from the INS. Is anyone in the same situation? How long does it usually take to get an approval? Also, someone told me that if the H1B is approved, a "new law" requires me to immiediately leave the US, to get an H1B visa stamp in my passport. Is this true?

Please help, I'm a little confused
