Unable to get SSN due to wrong Details in Passport

Hi,

My husband has visited to US with H1 B visa recently and in the process of obtaining SSN, found out that his dad's name is spelt wrong in the passport. The authorities there have sent a verification of docs to be done by USCIS.

Can some one let me know what would be the course of action after the verification is done and how to get the passport details corrected.
