Guyz,
Lemme share my experience.
First Interview:
===========
VO: Good Morning sir, give me your documents
I: Yes sir, (handed over the docs)
VO: What is your total experience
I: 5+ Years.
VO: Can you show me your degree certificates and mark sheet
(Looked at that and was convinced)
Looked at his computer monitor deeply for a moment and went inside without even telling me anything.
Came back with a blue sheet, marked few things.
Looked at me
VO: Sir, I cannot issue you a visa today. I need further information to proceed. (handed over the blue sheet to me)
( I was tensed and refused to get the sheet.. started screaming literally, the reason is I had never read immihelp.com before.. thought 221g as rejection)
I: May I know what is the reason .. I have very good experience and educational qualification
VO: That's the reason I didn't ask you anything about your experience. Listen, You have good experience. But there are many returning H1Bs now a days. I want to make sure of certain things. So go ahead and get me the documents
(Now I was a bit relaxed understanding there's still a hope and not outright rejection)
I: Sir, returning H1B's may be not having skills required for the market. But I have skills and experience with fortune 50 company.
VO: I am not going to issue you the visa today.
I: Sir, I need some more information
( VO shooks his head )
VO: WHAT ??
I: Sir, the petition is one year old. How can my employer attach me to a client and tell them to wait for one year. No client will wait for such a long time.
VO: frankly speaking I know xxxxxx (Company name). At this point I can only tell this much
(Again I was tensed a lott)
I: Sir, this is a good company. Their earnings are good in last two years. Their sales crossed 1 Million USD last year
VO: how do you know that. Look, what ever it is - I am not going to issue you the visa today.
I: Thank you (told this in muted tone and left the consulate)
221 (g) asked me for photos, Project details
Got all these from my employer. My employer was very cooperative and helpful. He was really patient and understood my feelings.
Second Interview:
==============
Entered the consulate at 9:00 AM sharp. Waited till 12:45. Was called for interview
VO: Good morning sir
I: Good morning sir. (Handed over my papers to him)
VO: Looks fine. Who interviewed you first time
I: I was not told his name.
VO: How he/she looks like
I: Tall, Medium built, glass
VO: Okay, I got it. Sir, you need to wait. I would like him to take a look into your papers
I: No problem, Thanks
(Since it's their lunch time, I had to wait for 3.5 hours. )
VO: called my number. But this was a lady now. Not the VO that came first.
I: Yes, Madam
VO: Give me your degree certificates
(I gave.)
VO: Tell me about the project
I: I explained the project and the technology used and also explained about my proficiency in that technology
VO: Is it a big project
I: No madam, the target customers are retail shops, grocery shops, small shops etc.
VO: Are you still working with your present employer
I: Yes madam
VO: Who is your supervisor?
I: xxxx
VO: Okay sir, we are approving your visa.
I: Thanks madam.
These are the points I observed // This may be useful // May change time to time. // so use at your own risk // This is not an advice but just the information // use these info at your own risk
a) Be cheerful -( I know that its difficult because of long waiting time and scary interviews in front of us)
b) Be open, truthful
c) Answer to point and dont speak unnecessarily
d) VOs are now a days looking for computer science and related degrees. So go with proper experience letter is you have non IT academic background
e) Read immihelp.com whenever you get time, it was really helpful
f) Get project letter from your employer ** Project letter should be specific saying exactly which project. ONe guy had a very good project letter. But they wrote that he will be working in one of two projects. VO told she need to know exactly which project and NOT this or that.
g) Sometimes they are looking for only original letters (No scan copies, no fax, no emails). In some cases they are not looking for this.
h) Take your mark sheets also.
i) Take your salary slips, bank statements.. sometimes they ask for this
j) Prepare for your interview. Read all your documents twice or thrice before interview date
h) Dont spoil your mind-set because of other's failures in front of you
I hope this helps people appearing in future.
